Safest Places in the World to Travel (5 April, 2017)

The Global Peace Index for 2016 has been released. This is a project of the independent organization ‘Institute for Economics and Peace’. Perhaps not surprisingly, South Sudan and Syria are the two most unsafe countries in the world to visit right now, so don’t be planning trips to those destinations any time soon. However, here are the top ten safest countries in the world in this report that will be particularly attractive to those who are apprehensive travellers.

1

ICELAND
If you really, really don’t want to take any chances at all…the number one safest country in the world, for the sixth successive time, is Iceland! Maybe not so coincidentally, it is also one of the hottest destinations for 2017.

2

DENMARK
Denmark is often also voted one of the happiest countries in the world and its only international dispute appears to be with Canada over an uninhabited rock between Greenland and Baffin Island!

3

AUSTRIA
Hold hands, sing and skip over those Alpine meadows, and no one is likely to harass you for trespass!

4

NEW ZEALAND
Knocking on the door of the top three is New Zealand – peace and quiet in the antipodes, punctuated by the most innovative soft adventure opportunities in the world.

5

PORTUGAL
Readily accessible Portugal, a country we showcased on the Travel Show recently, is a lovely mix of great value and friendly folk.

6

CZECH REPUBLIC
The Czech Republic is home of the best beer on the planet and Prague is one of the most beautiful capital cities in Europe.

7

SWITZERLAND
We recently featured Switzerland on the Travel Show. Neutrality has long been the centerpiece of its foreign policy, which has allowed it to escape the horrors of the last global conflicts.

8

CANADA
Oh Canada is eighth on the list, so maybe a trip to celebrate our sesquicentenary is on the cards this year .....

9

JAPAN
Japan is underestimated as a tourist country and remarkably free of firearms.

10

SLOVENIA
Slovenia, the part of the former Yugoslavia that had the most peaceful transition to becoming an independent state, boasts lovely lakes and mountains scenery.
