You can be sure of a warm welcome in Fort Worth, the “City of Cowboys and Culture.” New hotel offerings, restaurants and exciting tourism venues are enhancing the city’s reputation as one of the premier travel destinations in the United States.
The 16th-largest city in the United States, Fort Worth boasts a mix of preserved Western heritage and unrivalled artistic offerings. It’s the only city in the world where you can study Michelangelo’s first painting, walk between five world- class museums and also see a twice-daily cattle drive.
Named the # 4 value friendly destination in the United States by Hotwire.com, Fort Worth attracts more than 5 million visitors each year. Visitors can explore the legendary Stockyards National Historic District, the world-class Cultural District, downtown’s Sundance Square entertainment district, Texas Motor Speedway, the top-ranked Fort Worth Zoo, and so much more. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth is one of the premier museums in the US. The Kimbell’s permanent collection is small in size, comprising fewer than 350 works of art, but it is distinguished by an extraordinary level of artistic quality and importance. One of the most important acquisitions in the museum’s history is the recent purchase of the Sacrament of Ordination (Christ Presenting the Keys to Saint Peter) by the French painter Nicolas Poussin. The Museum also houses the earliest known painting by Michaelangelo - "The Torment of Saint Anthony."
A new Caravaggio exhibition opens October 16, 2011 and runs through January 08, 2012 at the Kimbell Museum. Electrifying in his originality, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571–1610) was a controversial genius whose short life was rife with conflict and who, in just the last half-century, has re-emerged as one of the most celebrated artists of all time. For more information visit www.kimbellart.org.
And October 21-23, 2011, the 21st annual Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival will ride into the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. The Gathering will feature countless family-oriented activities where visitors can experience the true west. This authentic western event will have Cowboy poets, western entertainers and an action-packed Ranch Rodeo where teams of ranch hands from 14 famous Texas ranches will compete for the coveted prize of being the best ranch at the rodeo.
